The Couture Process
The couture process can take several weeks, so it’s always best to start well in advance of your event. We prefer a minimum of twelve to twenty-four weeks notice of the date you require a garment, however do not hesitate to speak with us, if you have less time to plan.
1st Visit
- Initial discussion will cover your personal expectations/vision and details for the garment/event.
- We will discuss body shape, personal likes and dislikes as well as fabrics, colours and finishes.
- The most suitable silhouette and fabrics for you will be determined by trying a number of stock garments.
2nd Visit
- A selection of designs for the finished garment will be produced and presented with recommended fabrics.
- Based on these, we will work to finalise the design and a quote will be completed.
- At this point, should you decide to continue with the garment/s a 25% deposit is required. Further part-payments of up to 75% of the total will be required during the production of your garment/s.
- An appointment will be agreed for your 1st fitting. Depending on the complexity of garment, there will be 3 – 6 fittings.
1st Fitting
- At your first fitting, it is recommended that you have your correct undergarments.
- You will try a ‘toile’ or calico mock-up of the garment. This allows us to ensure the style and fit of the garment is perfected on your body, before cutting into fabric. This may be repeated depending on the complexity of garment.
Middle Fittings
- Shoes and undergarments are required by the 2nd fitting, as both can affect posture/body shape and in turn the fit of the garment.
- Your garment will be fitted at various stages of construction as required.
- Any minimal changes required* will be made during this time.
Final Fitting
The garment is finished and available for collection at the final fitting
- All finishes, fit and hemline are checked by the designer with you.
- Final payment is made upon the collection of garment.
*Please Note: Any changes to original design can lead to additional work and may incur an additional charge. This will be discussed and confirmed at the time. All additional charges will be payable at the collection of the garment, or as agreed with designer.
